Graphite Vs Steel Golf Clubs – The Big Difference!
YES! Whether you use a graphite or steel golf club, your performance is definitely going to be affected by the material used for manufacturing the club. You may have thought practicing your swing is the only thing you need to concentrate on in order to improve your prowess on the green, but experts advise taking a closer look at the material used for your golf club as this determines the kind of play afforded to your game.
The right club will definitely work to improve your performance on the course and choosing one is not as big or daunting a task as beginner golfers often think it be; we have some of the most useful tips on selecting the club most suited to your current skill level and style. Take a look:-
Just as wearing the wrong size of shoes can result in a lot of problems for the wearer, investing in the wrong kind of golf club is nothing short of a disaster for the amateur keen on playing like a pro and working to improve their game. This is because the wrong kind of club can withhold the results of your efforts as much as buying the right one can help you see the improvements, which are motivational for a sportsperson to observe and better their performance by. This is why even if you have inherited an expensive or branded set of golf clubs from someone, it doesn’t quite necessarily mean they are right for you or will ensure you are on your way to pro-golf championship cup wins! As a beginner, you need to be money-wise and also have the smarts to either borrow a good set from a friend or buy used but good quality Golf Clubs so you can begin your game in earnest –without having to worry about dents and scratches on expensive clubs or breaking the bank!
For buying a good set of golf clubs as a beginner, you need to consider the head-size, shaft, length and flex rating of the club. You also need to check out what kind of material the club is made of e.g. steel or graphite. While steel is cheap, it is not exactly poor quality, which is a misconception held on to by many people and thus they stay away from buying steel golf clubs. However, if your personal style is aided by using a steel club, by all means, stick to using it.
Steel is also hardy and thus great for long-wear as it is a durable metal that is considerable stiffer than graphite. If, on the other hand, you have used a graphite club, you are sure to have found it more flexible than steel, though it is relatively heavier in comparison to the steel one. This is why some people, especially those slightly build or ladies, may find it easier to get that perfect swing with the graphite golf club and prefer to buy the same. Faster swings are thus, better achieved with the use of a steel club and more flexi-swings with a graphite club – take your pick, based on your personal needs.

Graphite or Steel Golf Clubs?
I’ve started golfing at my school and the seasons finally ending and I Think I’ll pick up the sport I’ve become a decent learner and am getting better. I’ve been looking to upgrade my clubs to increase my game further. So I was wondering Graphite or steel, maybe what the difference is what each offers and what each "takes away".
Thanks
Depends upon your strength and club head speed. If you have natural skills in both then I believe steel to be the better shaft. However, as you get older you need some help and then graphite comes into its own.

Graphites offer more distance due to more flexibility but because of this are harder to hit straight.
Steel shafts substitute distance for accuracy and are more forgiving.
You can either look at it as do you want to hit it further, or be more accurate, or which part of your game do you need to improve on most?

Steel since you’re young. I’m assuming you’re still growing and will get stronger. Steel shafts offer more control so you’d want them in your irons and you can use the graphite shafts in your driver/fairway woods/hybrids.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion, so here’s mine. I use graphite in my woods, they are lighter and more flexible and I get more distance. For the same reason, I have steel in my irons because with graphite they will be too light and I don’t want that in my shorter clubs. I want to have steel shafted irons because I’m hitting them off the ground mostly out of all kinds of lies and I want a stiffer shaft for those shots.

You are young you need to get steel. The steel shafts are for higher swing speeds. You’re going to be improving your game, getting stronger, and growing. Steel is the way to go. The people who use graphite are ladies and seniors. If you’re really wanting to get serious about golf, go to a pro shop and get yourself fitted by a professional.

The real question is do you want accuracy or distance?
If you want more accuracy and feel then go with steel shafts.
If you want more distance then go with the graphite.
Of course all of this is assuming that you would have a regular to higher swing speed or else just go with graphite.
(there are companies that claim they have found a hybrid between the two but it will be expensive to get all your irons with these shafts.) Remember that the difference is minimal especially since you just started.
