Someone was asking about bullet proof glass, but I’m not sure if that is actually the way to go. What do most homes on Golf Courses use as their window glass? Even just some keywords would be helpful, thanks!

I work in the golf industry, and most of the time people just use regular glass. The added expense of lexan or hurricane windows isn’t usually worth it financially unless you’re right in the line of fire and you have a broken window every month. That being said, usually something like lexan is used. If you go to a home center and tell them you want hurricane windows, they’ll know what you mean. From my experience, lexan windows are about 3-4 times the cost of regular glass windows, so you have to weigh the pros and cons to see if it makes sense for you.

Although the island’s tropical feel and luxury resorts make it a fine place to “relax and enjoy”, some of the courses are very good indeed. Here’s my suggested list of must-play courses when on a golf holiday in Mauritius…

The Legend

Part of the Belle Mare Plage resort, The Legend is perfect for holiday golf – well-maintained and with several razor sharp teeth, you need to drive well and take the right club to the smallish greens. And if you lose a couple of balls, so what…You’re in Mauritius and the sun is shining. Plus, there’s good food and cold beer in the thatched-roof club house. With its sister course and the super hotel, this is arguable the No.1 golf-resort in the country.

The Links

A more “Championship” design than The Legend, The Links is a fine course. Designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas, you can taken your driver on most holes but that usually doesn’t win you much….This is a thinkers course with raised and small greens and craftily-placed trees and water hazards.

Golf du Chateau

Golf du Chateau offers fantastic Pacific Ocean views and a fine variety of challenges. It’s a clever layout that warms you up and gets you going before hitting you hard around the turn and towards the end. Set in 100 hectares of lush parkland and adjacent to the 1500 hectare Bel Ombre Nature Reserve, Golf du Chateau was the first really serious/modern design course on the island and has won many admirers.

Tamarina Golf

With such a beautiful backdrop, any course on Mauritius is going to be enjoyable but the designers have neither rested on their laurels nor Mother Nature. Tamarina is another top-quality course with golfers needing to draw and fade to get the right angle into the large greens. The bunkers are plentiful and very large and the mature woodland provides shade from the sun and, unfortunately, access to the greens if you’re not on song! Another beautiful course in paradise and a splendid example of golf in Mauritius.

Le Touessrok

I’ve been saving the most exciting till last – Le Touessrok Ile aux Cerfs is one of the Top 10 most glamorous courses in the world. You take a private launch to the island where only the course and its sumptuous clubhouse are, you freshen up with cool towels and maybe a rum cocktail and then you tackle the Bernhard Langer-designed gem. It’s very hard, in fact it’s too hard but who cares! Take lots of balls and a camera and enjoy. A brilliant golf course but not one to play regularly as it’s neither classic golf or good for your ego.

And one for the road…Hot off the press is the Ernie Els-designed course at Four Seasons. Four Seasons don’t do things by half and Ernie is a first-class designer. I haven’t played it yet but a good friend (and fine professional golfer) thinks this course is the new “hot one” on what is hot, hot, hot island for great golf.

If you’ve previously dismissed Mauritius golf, think again. It’s the perfect excuse to please the family whilst you play your favourite sport on some sensational courses.

Morgan Clarke

Golf might be a sport of skill and ability, but part of the beauty of playing golf is also the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. Golf courses are often built in areas of natural beauty, from an oasis in the desert to serene lakes and forests. If you are playing golf, then you should remember to stop and take a moment to look at the golf course view around you. Playing the game well is important, but you won’t get all you can out of the golfing experience if you don’t take in the golf course view. If you are looking for the best in golf course scenery, then here are some ways to best appreciate that lovely golf course view.

Stop and admire the view

You might be worried about your golf game, but don’t forget to appreciate the beautiful landscaping and scenery around you. Not only are golf courses often stunning in their construction and layout, but also many courses are located in areas of outstanding natural beauty. So, when you are playing a round make sure you take the time to stop and admire the golf course view. Take some pictures to capture the moment and remember that playing golf is not just about sport, but about getting outdoors and being closer to nature.

Buy golf course view souvenirs

If you are playing or visiting one of the more famous Golf Courses, then one of the best ways to remember the brilliant golf course view is to purchase pictures or souvenirs of the landscape.
Golf is a ball game played with a stick or a club. It is played on a specially designed ground. It is called a golf course. The playing area has holes and the player has to hit the ball into the holes with minimum strokes following the rules.

Each golf course has 18 holes. It is considered standard golf course but you can find some variations in the ground. Some of the golf courses have only nine holes so the player has to hit the holes twice to complete one game.

You will find that the course consists of different area, series of holes and grass. There is a teeing area from where you start off the game; Fairway is the area from where the player hits the ball from where it has landed after teeing. The grass in that area is cut short. This evenly cut grass or turf is beneficial to the players to hit the ball.

The area between the fairway and the out of bounds markers is called the rough. The grass in this area is cut higher than the fairway. This creates some difficulty in hitting the ball.

When you look at a golf course many times you will find some water body such as a river or a lake, dense vegetation and man made bunkers or sand traps. These are called hazards. Theses hazards increase the excitement of the game. There are special rules about how to play in theses areas.

Apart from the main golf course where you can enjoy a game you will find that there is an area designated particularly for practice. In this area there are markers to show the distance from the hole. It helps the golfer to improve his technique.

Designing a golf course is a challenging task in itself. Generally the natural landscape or layout of the area is kept intact but some times modifying the layout of the area becomes inevitable. Bunkers and sand traps are normally manmade.

During last fifty years environmental issues have grown up over golf courses. The amount of water used to keep the turf on the golf course is the bone of contention. Many people see that as a waste of a very useful resource. Some places Golf Courses are made without considering the impact on the biodiversity of the place. Some of them hamper the corridors of migrating animals and other wildlife.

With modern technology now golf courses can be built on abandoned farms or along coasts. In many countries there are strict norms are in place. You have to follow those norms if you want to build a new golf course. Generally this game is associated with the rich people. It is also looked as a culture of globalization of non-native land ethics. So you find strong resistance to the golf expansion.

Resistance or the environmental issues are hampering the expansion of golf courses. But for some golf enthusiasts a game of golf after a grueling day at office is the best thing to unwind.
